2014. A bootleg finished at 3 a.m., up on SoundCloud before it could get taken down. By morning, the comments were full of people I knew by name.
Me, Kygo, Lost Frequencies, Felix Jaehn. They called us the SoundCloud mafia. Kids trading mixtapes and unreleased wavs at 2 a.m. None of us knew what we were doing, and that was the whole point.
Then it became a business, and the comments went quiet. Everybody started competing instead of sending each other unreleased wavs at 2 a.m. The industry shifted to techno. You stream your favorite playlist all day. Ask for the artist’s name, and you draw a blank. The fan died into a casual listener. The community went with it.
I kept making records. They reached people. But sometimes it felt like I was sending my love out into thin air, into a void.
So I took time to figure out what I actually want to hear again. Tropical house, but made in a way so it feels brand new. I’m calling it future tropical. It’s me trying to build that room back.
Need That Love is the first one. Out the 25th. Yours only today.
